Redeemed Church interpreter arrested over alleged rape of 12-year-old girl

For allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl, an interpreter with the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Abeokuta, identified as Akin Adewale, has been arrested by the Odua Peoples Congress, OPC, Ogbe Unit in Ogun state.

Adewale, a commercial photographer allegedly committed the crime at their number 6, Shamusideen street, Oke-Sokori, residence, when his wife was not at home.

DailyPost gathered that the victim, daughter of the suspect’s church member lives with the suspect alongside his wife and two kids.

According to the victims mother, after the suspect had violently raped her 12-year-old daughter, the church leader threatened her not to tell anyone.

But unluckily for Adewale, the traumatized girl was bold enough to tell her biological parent’s, narrating everything to her parents.

The victim’s mother promptly reported to the case to the Odua Peoples Congress, OPC, who arrested the suspect.

Adewale reportedly confessed to the crime and blamed the devil for the act.

In his statement to the OPC, the suspect confessed that he used a cloth to cover the victim’s mouth before forcefully raping her.

He confessed that after he had his way, he threatened her and then gave her pain killers to use.

The mother of the victim, in her statement, said her daughter fled the couple’s home and came to her crying profusely about her nasty and ugly experience.

“My daughter came home crying and telling me she was no more interested in staying with daddy Favour (the suspect). She narrated a shocking revelation that the man covered her mouth with cloth and had sex with her,” she said.

She added that her daughter has been taken to a private hospital located at Totoro area of the town for medication, while a laboratory investigation was also conducted at a private Diagnosis Laboratory situated along NTA road, Abeokuta.

She concluded by noting that she has reported the case to her husband who had pushed for the arrest and persecution of the rapist.

While confirming the arrest of the alleged rapist, the zonal coordinator of the OPC, Akeem Bakenne, said that investigation is still ongoing and the case will be handed over to the police for prosecution.

However, the case is yet to be reported to the police as at the time of this report.

Daily Post had learnt that some members of the church were sent to the victim’s parents and the OPC to appeal on behalf of the church and the criminal.
