Reconstruction of Borno churches: No Christian group is being marginalized – CAN

The Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Borno State chapter, Bishop Mohammed Naga has debunked allegations that many christian communities were being marginalized by the government of Governor Kashim Shettima in the on-going reconstruction of destroyed churches.

Briefing newsmen in his office at the CAN centre in Maiduguri, at the weekend, the Bishop, who is also the Vice Chairman of the Committee set up by the governor to reconstruct churches destroyed due to activities of Boko Haram in southern senatorial district of the state, said none of the christian communities would be marginalized as claimed by some groups in Damboa Local Government Area.

Earlier, Brother Simon Ularju who is Chairman of Christian Forum in Damboa, who led other members on a courtesy call on the CAN Chairman recently alleged that, “communities of Kopchi, Izgeki, Kauji, Bdagu, Yazza, Shawa, Kuburvu, Kwanjilari and other villages on the fringes of Sambisa forest, whose churches were all razed, including their residential houses were denied their rights by the committee”.

But Naga said, Governor Kashim Shettima was committed to the plights of Christians in the state, hence the setting up of a high powered committee to reconstruct all destroyed churches across the state, which, according to him, would be done in phases as the security situation improved.
