The Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria (TEKAN) on Sunday called on the Federal Government to reconstruct homes and churches of displaced Christians in communities hitherto ravaged by terrorists in the North-Eastern part of the country.
This was contained in a Communiqué issued at the end of its 62nd General Assembly, held at the COCIN Church headquarters, in Jos the Plateau State, cosigned by its President, Rev. Emmanuel Dziggau and General Secretary, Rev. Moses Ebuga.
“The Assembly urges Christians in displaced areas to return to their original homes (communities) and urges the Federal Government to reconstruct their destroyed homes to help rebuild destroyed churches and ensure that the returning displaced persons have enough security.
“The Assembly calls on President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government to ensure that the Presidential Initiative on North-East (PINE) lives up to its mandate by ensuring that this mandate be extended to destroyed churches in Plateau, Benue, Nassarawa, Kogi and Kaduna States.
“In the same vein, the Assembly urges the Federal Government to use its diplomatic efforts to ensure the release of the remaining Chibok girls who are still in Boko Haram’s captivity”, the communique noted.
On the issue of denial of the freedom to acquire Church land, the Assembly called on the Federal Government to ensure that constitutional rights of the citizens as regards to “freedom of worship, freedom to live and acquire landed properties in any state of citizen’s choice is guaranteed”.
It also condemned the denial of certificate of occupancy for the erection of Church buildings by some State governments in the North and the recent demolition of the Lords Chosen Church and the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Jigawa State.
The Assembly, however, commended President Muhammadu Buhari in his fight against Boko Haram and the success recorded so far.
