Recession: Reshuffle your cabinet now, bring in technocrats – PDP youths tell Buhari

Some youths of the Peoples Democratic Party under the aegis of PDP National Youth Frontier, PDPNYF, have advised President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently reshuffle his cabinet by bringing in technocrats that will help take the nation out of its present economic predicament.

They stated that given the current economic woes and the implication of the President’s slow response to issues of the economy, “it’s now obvious that the President is helpless and clueless, lacking technocrats and capable hands in his cabinet that will help the nation out of the current economic recession.”

The PDPNYF expressed this position in a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Usman Okai Austin, which asserted that Buhari must immediately dissolve his cabinet because it is dysfunctional.

According to the statement, “It is no longer news that Nigeria is in recession which has put the nation in a very difficult situation. The Government has admitted to it and the most unfortunate thing, is that the present Government is confused and unable to tell Nigerians the way out of the present hardship which the APC Government has plunged Nigeria into.

“Our position, therefore, is that the Government as currently constituted is dysfunctional. The time has come for the President to dissolve his cabinet and appoint a new one and subject any persons retained from the former Cabinet to a fresh round of National Assembly vetting. The present Economic team headed by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, a Professor of Law has failed. Even the Minister of Finance sounds confused, helpless and overwhelmed.

“Therefore, it is very imperative and urgent that the President should look for capable hands that will help him across his party line.

“It’s time for the President and his team to accept that they have failed the nation. The PDP youths note that not only the opposition family but also members of the ruling party have seen the handwriting on the wall that President Muhammadu Buhari has been failing in the task of taking the country to the promise land and it is disheartening to know that the President has not recognised his failures.”

The statement added that: “One would have expected the Buhari-led administration to come out with clear policies and programs that will navigate the nation out of the recession. Instead, the government is busy giving hopes to Nigerians without policy direction, so sad that so much promised by this government of change have failed.

“The slow movement of the president is directly responsible for the present economic woes we are into. The president spent almost a year travelling the world, delayed in the formation of his government, and at the end gave the nation a misfit cabinet.

“President Buhari after about 16 months in office is still unable to constitute boards of agencies and parastatals. Nigeria is moving backward and it’s unfortunate that the president is yet to realize this backward movement.

“We therefore call on the President to as a matter of urgency and national importance, to constitute the board of agencies and parastatals, as well as form a new cabinet immediately.”
