Scores of Local Government Areas are in total blackout in Osun State, as Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company disconnected them over non-payment.

At the Osogbo Local Government Secretariat, which was located at the heart of the State capital, all activities were totally in comatose, as neither electricity nor generator was available to supply power.

One of the staff at the secretariat, who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the council was in a serious debt running to several millions of Naira, adding that the secretariat had been disconnected since over two weeks.

“Activities in this council has be on hold for about 15 days now, nothing is working again, you that there is nothing we can do without light.

“I leant that the council is owing the IBEDC in millions, the excuse of the council mangement is that there is no money to pay.

“The way things are going, I doubt if the light will be restored this year, we are in for serious mess, ” the source said.

Also, Olorunda Local Government, which was also located within the metropolis is presently in darkness, due to huge debt hanging on its neck.

A source at the council revealed that IBEDC came to disconnect power at the secretariat after several warnings and calls for payment to avert embarrassment.

All efforts to get the reactions of members of Caretaker Committee of the affected local governments, however, proved abortive, as none of them was ready to speak on the issue.
