Residents of the Mpape area of Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, were recently thrown into shock as a 40-year-old man, Dominic Iyayi Ogar, killed his entire family over claims he could not feed them.
The man, who hails from Okpoma village in Yala Local Government Area, LGA of Cross River State, was said to have slept with his 27-year-old wife, Omago and their 2-year-old daughter, Blessing, on the same bed but woke up suddenly in the middle of the night, took a knife and stabbed both of them to death, and they died instantly, the Sun reports.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP, Mr. Mohammed Mustafa, who confirmed the incident, weekend, said the suspect committed the act on October 8.
“Ogar then carried the corpses to a nearby nursery and primary school in the area where he wrote a small note and dropped it beside the corpses and then ran off to hide in his farm,” he said.
The CP said Ogar was exposed by one of his neighbours, Destiny Onwusuaka, who noticed some blood-stain around the door of the family house.
“The neighbour raised the alarm and alerted the police who launched a manhunt for the suspect.
“It took four days before he was found in his farm and arrested.
“Following the arrest, the corpses of the deceased were moved to the mortuary of the National Hospital, Abuja,” the CP added, stating that the Criminal Investigation Department, CID of the Command had begun investigation into the incident.
“The suspect will be charged to court soon,” the CP said.
Ogar, in his confession, was quoted to have said “I don’t have a job, I cannot feed my family, I can only feed myself, and God should forgive me for what I have done.
“I don’t know what came to my mind; it was frustration that led me to stab my wife and only daughter to enable me survive in life,” the father of one added.
