Recession: Emulate Ikpeazu on ‘made in Nigeria goods’ – Igbo youths tell governors

The World Igbo Youth Congress, WIYC, on Friday described Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State as a champion of domestic products, urging other governors to emulate him.

The WYIC, an affiliate of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, urged other governors in the South-East zone to emulate Ikpeazu’s drive for the promotion of local goods, insisting that such would help in making the States more viable and less dependent of federal allocation.

Briefing journalists in Enugu, the President General of the group, Evangelist Chibuzor Isiguzoro, flanked by his Deputy and the secretary, Dr. Ugwu Francis and Edumobi Izuorah, respectively, said the decision was taken after the group completed a tour of projects initiated by Governor Ikpeazu.

He stated that the tour was undertaken by 36 States Coordinators of the group, after which they converged in Abia Hotels, Aba, where far reaching decisions were taken.

The WIYC members observed that during the tour, ‎”we came face to face with legacy projects scattered all over Abia State, Aba in particular.

“With what we say in Aba, Ikpeazu has redefined governance in Abia State, unlike what we saw in the past 16 years in that State.

“It is a common knowledge that with his campaign for made in Aba projects, nay Nigeria, Abia State now occupies a veritable position in world map.

“This is in addition to quality road infrastructures ‎and other projects scattered across the State despite the distractions occasioned by a two-year legal tussle.

“Having taken note of these, we make bold to say that Ndigbo are proud of him and the Igbo youths have taken the lead in mobilizing men and women, young and old for his re-election.

“By May 29, we shall make real our stand by mobilizing all the Igbo Youths for the “I Stand with Okezie” solidarity march. The campaign shall play host to all the Igbo youths from the five States.”

While noting that the group was committed to promoting good governance in the South-East, the Igbo youths declared that the assessment tour would be replicated across the South-East, stressing “after that, we shall make our position known on other governors in the zone.”

‎They lauded efforts towards creating more awareness for the on-going voters’ registration exercise and called for more action.
