Recession: Again, Falana urges EFCC to investigate, prosecute Sanusi, Soludo

Human rights activist, Femi Falana, SAN, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to probe some former governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

Speaking at a dinner organised by the executives of the Senior Staff Club of the University of Ibadan in Oyo State in honour of members recently appointed by the Federal Government, Falana disclosed that he would apply for an order of Mandamus to compel the anti-graft agency to probe and prosecute the Deposit Money Banks over loans allegedly granted them by some former governors of the CBN.

Disclosing that the former governors of CBN gave out the loans between 2006 and 2011, the Senior Advocate pointed out that it was important to know if the huge sum had been refunded to the treasury.

Falana also stated that he had written a petition to the EFCC on the loans, adding that the matter is yet to be attended to.

According to the senior advocate, a former CBN governor gave out $7bn to 14 banks in 2006 while the sum of $5bn was also given to some banks by another CBN governor in 2011.

He added that the same governor later handed over N2.5tn to those he described as economic saboteurs.

“We cannot be claiming to be broke when money given out as loans or deposits are not accounted for. The EFCC must probe, recover the funds and prosecute anybody found culpable,” he said.
