A strong contender of the Rivers State Governorship race, Prince Tonye Princewill has in a recent Press conference with newsman in Abuja disclosed the real reason he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the Labour Party, LP.
In his condemnation of PDP’s alleged mischief, Princewill affirmed that other aspirants, including himself were treated poorly in the way and manner the party handled the Rivers primaries that led to the emergence of former Education Minister, Nyesom Wike whom he alleged was a stooge.
Princewill who said that the option of aligning with other political parties was the best, said he was not ready to lament over what transpired, but will always forge ahead in order to actualize his dream in Rivers State come 2015.
He affirmed further that his dogged character will always speak for him, as unlike the other politicians who were emotionally swayed and decided to pick up appointments at the federal level, he has resolved to fight on in order to redeem Rivers people.
He said, “2015 has been on our mind since 2007, the time has come and we have tried as much as we could to play it fair, and reasonable, but the PDP felt that in their best interest they are going to impose a candidate on us. That’s too bad.
“While other aspirants had not had the good fortune, wisdom, courage or opportunity to move parties, I have; and I have moved into a party that I can quite comfortably call home,” he said.
“I declined both Senate and Ministerial positions to remain with the people.
“I stayed out of government and kept my political structure intact,” he said.
Talking about political ideology, Princewill said Nigerian politicians are often found of moving from one political party to the other, because almost all political parties in the country lack strong political ideology to pull through, praising the Labour Party for patronizing an ideology that is somewhat similar to his personal political ideology. He then said that the Labour party will definitely make its mark with the ideology it currently patronizes.
“The Labour Party has an ideology and concept of what government should be doing which is similar to my own.’’
“I am someone who believes that business should be allowed to thrive, but the ordinary people must be carried along. Jobs need to be created and people need job security. I also believe that we should be looking at jobs for all, not just creating contracts for a few and in that light, the Labour party and myself share quite a lot.
“We believe in social housing, free education, free health care and also believe that business should be partners with employees instead of a master/ servant relationship,” he said.
.
Speaking about his future political move, Princewill said his new found party would be his last political party as he was not ready to decamp to another party in the near future.
“It is safe to say that I am not going to be moving again. If Labour party disappoints my constituency, then I will be quitting politics completely. I am not going back to PDP under any circumstances.
“I intend to finish my political career in the Labour Party whether I win or lose the next election,” he reiterated.
Speaking on his adoption as the party’s candidate, he said that eleven other political parties have joined the Labour Party to further endorse his candidature. He assured journalists that further details would be made available to them in another press conference which he said would hold in few days.
“A press conference will be held in the next few days to unveil that position.
He also admitted that the LP was the underdog in the state, but he prefers to be challenged that way.
‘’For 2015 in Rivers State, it is going to be the PDP, APC, and the rest. We are the underdogs, but that is the kind of underdog I prefer to be,” he said.
He also accused Ameachi of deceiving Rivers people by collaborating with Wike to push Ikwere agenda.
DAILY POST will bring that version of the report as soon as it’s ready.
