Real Madrid’s game against Celta Vigo moved from Sunday

La Liga has confirmed that Real Madrid’s league fixture against Celta Vigo has been moved from Sunday, because of damage caused to their stadium by a heavy storm.

The storms left Celta’s Balaidos Stadium damaged, especially the area reserved for away fans.

Following inspections from the city’s local council on Saturday, the mayor of Vigo said “the game needs to be postponed”.

La Liga has now announced the postponement, but is yet to fix a new date for the match.

“Following a report from the city of Vigo, the organisation believes that Balaidos Stadium is not safe for spectators and players to attend on Sunday, February 5,” a statement released on its website said.

“Therefore, having received this information, La Liga and the Real Club Celta have transferred this report to the Spanish FA (RFEF).

“La Liga will propose possible dates to the clubs and broadcasters, and the president of the RFEF will decide on the matter.”

Friday’s game between Deportivo La Coruna and Real Betis was also called off because of strong winds.
