Real Madrid has a 10-day ultimatum to appeal Cristiano Ronaldo’s five-match ban.

Ronaldo has been handed the punishment for pushing referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea during their 3-1 win over Barcelona on Sunday.

The 32-year-old was shown a second yellow card for what Bengoetxea deemed to be a dive inside the penalty area.

He had booked the Portugal captain moments earlier, after he ripped off his shirt when he made it 2-1 with a stunning drive.

After he was shown the red card, Ronaldo momentarily lose his cool and shove the referee.

Bengoetxea included the altercation in his post-game match report, writing: “Player: Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro. Once the red card was shown, the player pushed me slightly in a sign of disagreement.”

The Spanish Football Federation have now delivered their verdict on the incident, with a five-game ban and fine handed out.

Real have confirmed that they will appeal the suspension, but have until next Wednesday to do that.

This means Ronaldo will most certainly miss the return leg against Barcelona at Santiago Bernabeu in midweek.
