Football expert, Ian McGarry has spoken on the fate of Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane, after Saturday’s 3-0 Clasico defeat to rivals Barcelona.
He said though the Bernabeu legend may be allowed more time, that doesn’t guarantee he’ll stay in the job for long.
“The last thing Florentino Perez wants to do is sack an icon of his famous club,” Daily Star quoted McGarry as saying.
“And I think a sacking won’t take place, it’ll be a word in his ear saying it’s time to go Zidane because the players are not responding to you, or the training isn’t good enough, or whatever the reasons are behind that misfiring squad.”
McGarry also tipped Chelsea manager Antonio Conte as a potential replacement.
“I think Conte is desperate to get that job,” he added.
“He’s admired by Perez. What he did in his first season at Chelsea was very impressive but without Champions League football.
“But he’s not got his way with transfers – and that’s unlikely to be different at Real Madrid – but I think Spain or Germany would be his preferred choice because the Italian league is not as strong as what it was in the 1990s or 2000s.
“The wages at Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund or Real Madrid would be two or three times more than at most clubs in Italy.”
