Real Madrid announce Casillas’ departure

Real Madrid have confirmed that Iker Casillas is leaving the club, after they agreed a fee with FC Porto.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been with the Los Blancos for 25 years, where he won 3 European Cups, 1 Club World Cup, two Intercontinental cups, 2 European Super Cups, five league titles, two Spanish Cups and four Super Cups.

Madrid are chasing Manchester United’s David De Gea, to become their new number one.

The club statement reads: “Real Madrid CF and FC Porto have agreed the transfer to the Portuguese club of Iker Casillas.

“Iker is gone, but his example remains. His behavior during the 725 matches played in our shirt shows the way to those who dream of being part of this team.

“Thanks, Iker, for everything done. Thanks for being a symbol of the best in our history.

“But don’t forget that you belong forever to the heart of Real Madrid.”
