Re-scheduled election: Candidates in Rivers announce boycott

Candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, contesting for the Rivers State House of Assembly, have decided not to participate in tomorrow’s rescheduled election.

INEC, in Rivers State had, in statement signed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, slated the election for Saturday, April 18, 2015 in some wards in six Local government areas where election did not hold last saturday.

Addressing newsmen at a media briefing in Port Harcourt, candidate of the APC in Emohua state constituency, Chidi Lloyd, said the reason for the boycott of the election is borne out of the high level of insecurity in the state, which he said, does not allow for a conducive electoral process.

Lloyd also said they decided to boycott the election for lack of confidence on the Gesila Khan Independent National Electoral Commission in Rivers State.

The candidates also disclosed that they have instituted a matter before Justice Uche Agommuo of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt stopping the election from proceeding until a later date.
