RCCG pastor held by Boko Haram for 10 months escapes

A pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, who had for the past 10 months been under the captivity of Boko Haram militants in Borno State last Tuesday escaped from the sect’s stronghold.

Pastor Rotimi Obajimi, who served as a pastor in a rural area within the Borno/Yobe province, was on his way to Maiduguri on January 6th this year, when he was abducted by members of the Boko Haram militia.

One of the pastors of Redeem church in Maiduguri told SaharaReporters that they were surprised to see Obajimi resurfaced from nowhere, saying, “we were so amazed to see him because we have been praying earnestly for long time, trusting Jesus that he would surely come back, but lo and behold he was brought to our headquarters in Maiduguri by the military.”

The pastor told his colleagues that he was taken to Sambisa Forest where he was tied down for months before he was later moved to an unknown destination and thereafter brought back to Sambisa forest again. He was said to have informed them that his escape was made possible by a heavy downpour that led to massive floods which sacked everyone in the camps.

He narrated that as a result of the rains, armed men left him and others so he was able to escape and for days, he wandered in the forest before he finally got to a village where the military picked him up. After listening to his ordeal, they later brought him to Maiduguri with military escorts driving him to Maimallari Hospital.

Another pastor revealed that the senior military official at 7 Division has advised them to relocate the pastor to Redemption Camp in Lagos for his safety, stressing that adequate provision has been made to fly the kidnapped pastor out of Maiduguri.

A military source at 7 Division affirmed the escape of Pastor Obajimi, asserting that he has been fully debriefed by the military.
