Randy man rapes deaf and dumb woman in Lagos

A randy 57-year-old man, Victor Adebanjo is currently in jail and hiding his face in shame for raping a defenceless deaf and dumb woman in her shop repeatedly.

Stunned court officials and family members of both parties watched with mouths agape as the heartless suspect narrated how he overpowered his victim and forcefully had sex with her, while pretending to be a customer.

The Ogun State-born welder was recently arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Lagos, for raping a deformed woman in Mushin, Lagos State, late last year.

Speaking to the court, the artisan admitted to the rape charge against him but appealed for court’s pardon, saying he was prepared to marry his deaf and dumb victim, Miss Rhoda Olu.

Adebanjo told the court that he would marry the complainant since he was quite sure no man will ever want to marry her because of her impediment.

“I know I have done wrong, but I love her, I felt she could not tell me whether she likes me or not because of her condition, so I just felt she liked me. My ex-wife left me for another man, so I will marry Rhoda, because no man can take her away in this her state and I love her,” he declared to the court.

Recounting the events of the sad day, the counsel representing the victim of the horrendous act, Mr. Innocent Ikeh said that on August 18, 2012, the suspect went to the complainant’s shop and forced himself on the 38-year-old petty trader. According to the lawyer, the victim could not inform anyone due to her deformity and she kept mum on the issue. He went on to forcefully sleep with her on several occasions without her consent.

“He kept on coming to rape the helpless woman until one day, suspecting neigbours caught him unaware struggling with the woman. The neigbours subsequently arrested him and he was taken to the Police.”

Younger sister of the victim, Beatrice, revealed that the marriage intention of the accused will not make them withdraw their case and that they would wait for the court to decide.

“The promise of marriage does not change anything for us; if he wanted to marry her, he would have come to ask the family nicely, not by raping her. We are not going to withdraw the case based on that promise. The court will decide on what to do, not us” she revealed in tears.

The case has been adjourned for further hearing.
