The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has warned that any attempt by Governor Godwin Obaseki to turn the state into a grazing field will be vehemently resisted.
The party said it would not allow the forceful taking of people’s land and surrendering same to Fulani herdsmen for grazing purposes by the state government.
Chairman of the party in the state, Dan Orbih, gave the warning while receiving All Progressives Congress, APC, and Labour Party, LP, defectors from four Local Government Areas of Oredo, Egor, Orhionmwon and Igueben.
He said, “On no condition should Godwin Obaseki concede lands to anybody under any guise.
“We have been mandated by Edo people to inform President Muhammadu Buhari to delist Edo State as one of the states earmarked for his cattle ranching pilot scheme. The president should replace Edo State with his home state of Katsina.”
The party chairman also expressed sadness over the Executive Order No. 6 which gives President Muhammadu Buhari the authority to forcefully seize properties belonging to Nigerians.
“President Buhari can’t arrogate the powers of the various arms of government of the legislature and judiciary to himself alone,” he said.
Receiving the defectors, the PDP chairman declared that “today marked the beginning of political harvest into the PDP in Edo State.
“There are strong indications that APC leaders and members from virtually all the local government chapters in the state are ready to dump the party and increase the numerical strength of the PDP.
“This mass defection of APC members in the state to PDP is an indication that Obaseki has failed in his two years in government, which he used in signing only MoUs.”
