Arsenal are likely to be without Aaron Ramsey for the festive period, after manager Arsene Wenger revealed that the midfielder has picked up a hamstring injury.
The Welshman scored twice in the Gunners’ 4-1 win over Galatasaray on Tuesday, but may not miss the rest of 2014.
“We have the scan last night and I don’t know enough the extent of his injury,” Wenger told a news conference.
“It’s a shame because he was getting close to his form.”
Wenger is also without Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscielny for the visit of Newcastle this weekend. Calum Chambers is suspended, leaving Per Mertesacker as the only recognised centre-back.
“Defensively, I have 24 hours to think about it and I will find a solution,” he continued. “We have to play someone with almost no experience or someone who is not used to playing in the position.”
