Two suspected Boko Haram spies were on Wednesday intercepted by the Civilian JTF at the Borno state deputy governor’s office where the state government is currently distributing Ramadan Rice to over 30,000 residents of Maiduguri and Jere local government.
The two suspects, who were handed over to security operative at the government house for onward handover to the Nigerian military were said, to have come to spy the ground as people were busy scrambling for rice with the intention of attacking them through suicide bombing.
Although nothing incriminating was found on them, Civilian JTF controlling the crowd said, the suspects confessed to have come to spy for possible security lapses in order to send suicide bombers on the crowd for maximum casualty.
According to a member of the Civilian JTF, Goni Abdullahi, ” We saw them looking tensed and they are not trying to collect the rice but were being conscious of the security situation and we asked them to identify themselves. They could not give proper identification and they were trying to fight us, so we arrested them and took them to the security.”
He said, when they were tortured, they confess to have come on a mission to spy the security situation for a possible attack on innocent residents who came out to seek food at the rice distribution centre at the deputy governor’s office.
