The Nigeria Police Force, on Tuesday brought a 50-year-old man, Ahmed Echodo, before a Magistrate’s Court in Abuja for allegedly misleading the police to conduct a raid at a building belonging to the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Friday.

Although two defendants were accused of the offence, only Mr. Echodo was arraigned on Tuesday.

Recall that security operatives ransacked Ekweremadu’s building penultimate Friday morning following information accusing the occupants of criminal offences.

They found nothing incriminating during the search.

The police charged the two men on a one-count of misleading the Nigeria Police.

The charge read that the men, Echodo and Maiwada Adamu conspired to falsely inform the office of the IGP that the building, occupied by Oliver Ogenyi, is being maintained and used for criminal activities including storage of arms and ammunition.

The second accused, Adamu, was not in court while the first defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecution counsel, Ismail Tawo, however, told the court that Adamu was at large.

The magistrate, Umar Kagarko, ordered the police to hunt and present Adamu in court at the next sitting.

The counsel to the defendant, Peter Ngwoke, prayed the court to grant his client bail.

The matter was adjourned till June 5 for ruling on the bail application.
