The Kebbi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Jibril Ibrahim Zarewa, has said the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is not expecting to achieve 100 per cent distribution of the Permanent Voter Cards, PVC, in the state.
According to the REC, out of 1.5 million registered voters in the state, 1.4 million PVCs had been distributed.
“We do not think we will distribute all of them, not because we don’t want to or because we are incapable, but because some people who registered in 2011 and in 2014 are now dead. Also, Kebbi has many institutions; some of the people including corps members who registered have left the state and are not within reach to pick up their cards. So, we are not expecting 100 per cent collection,” he said.
Continuing, Zarewa said: “We are prepared for the elections and we are appealing to everybody, especially politicians to continue with their campaigns in line with the law.”
The REC insisted that with the 93.1 per cent level of distribution attained, the commission was ready to conduct the general elections in the state.
“We conducted the field test exercise in Raha Ward in Bunza Local Government Area, because the area has different climatic conditions. We wanted to subject the card reader to all kinds of weather, so that we can have a complete result. Rana ward has a total of seven polling units, but it has six voting points and we are going to deploy 20-25 card readers there. We will also deploy extras in case of any eventuality,” he added.
