The Ondo state Government has declared Friday, August 15 and 22 as public holidays.

According to a statement by the State Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, the holiday is to enable public servants in the state participate actively in the fresh voters registration exercise being organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as the collection of the newly introduced permanent voters card.

Voters are expected to begin the exchange of their old temporary voters card for a permanent from 15th to 17th, while registration of fresh voters will hold between 20th and 22nd of August.

The government urged Civil servants in the state and the general public to take advantage of the holidays and ensure that they partake actively in the exercise by exchanging their temporary voter’s card for a permanent one and also register if they have not done so.

Also, the National Association of Akure Students [NAAS] said it has commenced a sensitization programme that would enable Akure indigenes, who are students across the country to participate in the upcoming Permanent Voter Cards [PVC]’s collection.

According to the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Akin Orebiyi during the recent stakeholders meeting at the State INEC office, the exercise would commence on August 15 in the state.

A statement issued and signed by the President of NAAS, Tayo Akintade and its Public Relations Officer [PRO], Ifeoluwa Orimoloye shortly after its meeting at the Deji’s Palace urged the students to know that their voter cards was their tools to elect credible leaders.

He stressed that it was one of the obligations expected of patriotic citizens, adding that the PVC would enable them to elect who would rule them for the next four years.
