It seems the online portal of one of Nigeria’s best read newspapers, PUNCH, has been hacked. On a quick visit to the website – www.punchng.com, it was noticed that the site was inaccessible and no stories could be viewed.

Instead, there was a cryptic message which reads: “HacKeD El-hiLal & Only index.php / suffered no harm / I can help / security vulnerabilities fixed ? / Contact: hckr@outlook.com”

However, DailyPost put a call across to Punch head office in Lagos and we were told that the office was not aware of the development. They promised to call us back if it was verified.

We await official word from management of the media house, to ascertain if an upgrade is going on, or it is the work of evil people on the Internet.

UPDATE: The site is now up and running.
