Public Complaint Commission speaks on face-off with judiciary

The Kano State Public Complaint Commission, KSPCC, has reacted to its face-off with the Judiciary.

KSPCC’s Executive Chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado in a statement of apology said the judiciary does not need anti-corruption Commission for its survival but the Commission needs the judiciary to operate.

Rimingado said this while reacting to a recent statement perceived to be against the judiciary especially in the area of criminal justice administration in the state.

The Commission’s boss had a few days ago reported to have accused some judges in the state of tampering with its investigation.

Rimingado had lamented that some judges were not helping matters as far as the fight against corruption in the state was concerned.

However, the Executive Chairman of KSPCC, in a statement commended the legislature for enacting the Public Complaint Commission and Anti-Corruption Commission Law to fight corruption.

He also applauded the Executive for creating enabling environment for the Commission to operate.

The statement reads, “The Kano State Public Complaint Commission and Anti-Corruption Commission Law was enacted in 2008 creating this agency with a dual mandate of fighting corruption and ombudsman.

“Three years ago, the commission was re-invigorated to serve the purpose for which it was created and for all these years that the Commission was restructured it has enjoyed a cordial working relationship with all stakes holders in the criminal justice administration.

“The recent development soured the relationship existing between the judiciary and the Commission. It is our belief that, the judiciary does not need an anti-corruption Commission for its survival but the Commission needs the judiciary to operate and above all the society needs both for development.

“On this note and in the interest of peace and stability, I wish to without prejudice to the power and function of the Commission to apologize to the Judiciary and any other person that may have been offended by my statements. Though not excusable, all that happened was highly regrettable and I take full responsibility for the action.

“I wish to also use this medium to commend the legislature for enacting the law to fight corruption and the executive for enabling environment given to the Commission to operate. We also call upon the judicial arm of government in the interest of the state to preserve and support the Commission to serve the purpose of its mandate.

“Fighting corruption is not a one-man business, I, therefore, enjoin all to join hands with the Commission in fighting the menace of corruption.

“Finally, our determination to fight corruption in the state remains resolute and undaunted. We appreciate the support of the public towards our operation and we will do our best to deliver our mandate within the confine of the law.”
