The Board Chairman, Plateau State Fire Service ,PSFS, has called on the State Government to reposition the Jos Metropolitan Development Board ,JMDB, for effective performance and also widen its scope to cover the 17 Local Government Areas in the State.
Sir Anthony Homsuk, disclosed this in a chat with newsmen in Jos on Wednesday, saying that the functions and scope of the board should be widened so as to encompass the various local governments.
According to him, “JMDB has been the beacon of Plateau government in its quest towards making Jos one of the beautiful cities in the country, and that is the justification behind its creation in 1974.
“Today, it is also serving as a major tool the government is using to actualize the implementation of the Greater Jos Master Plan.
H e maintained that, “The board may not perform to expectations if its functions are not redefined, and its scope widened, because we want the 17 LGAs of the State to feel the impact of the activities of the board.
“I therefore call on the State government to give this a critical look, so that the board can be a result oriented agency”.
The Chairman, who was a one-time General Manager of the Board, also tasked the State government on the need to increase the funding of the board to enable it refurbish its equipment.
Homshuk also advocated for a change of name from JMDB to Plateau Urban Development Board ,PUDB, so as to incorporate other suburbs.
