Hundreds of motorists and travellers were stranded on the Akure/ Owo expressway yesterday following a protest by youth of Ayede-Ogbese in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State over the death of a man that was crushed by a truck.

The man whose identity is still unknown was said to have been killed around 9.am.

The youth of the town who were infuriated by the killing barricaded the road, thereby preventing free flow of traffic .

They were seen chanting war songs, while making burn fire on the road to vent their anger on what they labelled as government insensitivity to the poor condition of the road.

Even the presence of security personnel could not bring the situation under control as the youth went on rampage.

For several hours, many motorists and travellers were trapped in the gridlock

Some of the protesting youth who spoke with DailyPost said they would not leave the scene of the incident until speed breakers were made on the road by relevant agencies.

The youth claimed that the road had become traps, claiming that many lives have been on it.

It was gathered that the traditional ruler of the town, Alayede of Ayede-Ogbese, Oba Iseoluwa had paid N150,000 for the construction of speed breakers on the road but the project was stooped two weeks ago.

The project was said to have been stopped because the ministry did not approve the creation of speed breakers on the road.

One of the protesting youth, Ahmed Samson, said they would not leave the scene until speed breakers were mounted on the road to tackle further road mishaps.
