Protest rocks JUTH as medical doctors protest with coffin

No fewer than 400 medical doctors stormed the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) in Plateau state armed with a mock coffin in the early hours of Wednesday, protesting poor management of the hospital.

After laying siege to the complex of JUTH, the doctors also took to the streets in protest.

The Chief Medical Director of JUTH, Prof Edmund Banwat told Punch that: ”It was learnt that some of their grievances include an alleged disregard for the order of the National Industrial Court stopping the sack of doctors in the institution.

“Others included the planned implementation of no work, no pay policy, as against the memorandum of the terms of settlement between NARD and the federal government as well as the exclusion of the names of some staff from the nominal roll for October 2017.”

The report further said that of the doctors were armed with placards carrying messages like: ‘Come and rescue JUTH’, ‘Illegal sacking by illegal CMD’, ‘Prof Banwat, your tenure as CMD is over’, ‘Rest in peace to the many souls killed by bad leadership’, ‘Obey Court order’, ‘Stop illegal sacking of Resident Doctors’ and ‘Vacate office, your tenure is over.’

Details later….
