Protest rocks Asaba over alleged killing of college students.

Fierce protest by students of the Federal College of Education, Technical Asaba, Delta State in the early hours of Friday, paralyzed business activities, while property and some vehicles were destroyed during the protest.

It was gathered that the protest by the students was informed by the alleged killing of two of their colleagues during APC primaries held at the school premises on Wednesday.

The victims, Henry and Benjamin were alleged to have embarked on ticketing for traders who came to sell at the premises when in the process, the policemen attempted to stop them, but in a fist of fury, the victims allegedly challenged the policemen to a fight, a situation one of the policemen pulled his trigger, and unfortunately, the two victims died at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Asaba the following day.

But the State Police Commissioner, Mustafa Muhammed who confirmed the incident to journalists said, “The Police are investigating the incident, and have arrested the SUG President including others as investigations are ongoing.

”The report we have is as a result of ticketing during the APC Primaries, so it had nothing to do with the Policeman”.

Meanwhile, in a statement signed by the National Association of Nigerian Students (Joint Campus Committee) Delta State Chapter, DIO Oghale Emeka, a copy made available to journalists, said the body received with rude shock the brutal killings of two of its students, adding that the leadership of the students’ body had decided to embark on a peaceful protest to press home their grievances.

Part of the statement reads; ”We as students’ body cannot fold our hands and watch two of our members wasted, something has to be done about it, and we will not stop the peaceful protest until something is done about it.”

The protesters along Ibusa end of the road barricaded the T-Junction to the school gate.
