A violent protest is currently ongoing in Wuse Market, at the nation’s capital, Abuja. The protesters are blocking vehicles and harassing visitors from entering the market.
It was learnt that the protesters are angry over the killing of a taxi driver allegedly murdered by a task force in the market Wednesday morning.
While the market remains shut, the protesters have blocked movement of vehicles around the area, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
The protest that started in the early hours of today (Wednesday) at the Wuse market in Abuja has now spread to other parts of the nation’s capital.
The protest has spread to Berger, a major transit point in FCT with thousands of motorists and commuters stranded.
The exact reason for the protest is yet to be ascertained, but protesters said a taxi driver was killed by a task force in the market.
Alechenu John, one of the protesting taxi drivers, said the victim was shot by a soldier attached to the task force. “That is how the task force normally terrorise us,” Mr. Johnson told reporters.
Another protester said the victim had been rushed to the hospital, and has not been confirmed killed yet.
“We won’t take it anymore,” he said.
Some armed police officers were seen around Wuse and Berger areas trying to calm the situation, while the market remains shut.
