Protest hits Federal University Oye-Ekiti as students allege corruption destroying institution

Scores of students of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), took to the streets today, 24 July 2017 to stage a protest against an alleged injustice and corruption destroying the institution.

The students alleged that the issue has now become alarming as the 100 level and Direct Entry students are yet to receive their Matriculation Number, even though they are already preparing for the 2nd semester Examinations.

The mobilization for the protest began as early as 7 am this morning, as the students caused road blocks and shut the school gate.

During the protest, the students also alleged that the school earlier appointed Dr Malomo, known as MALOO as the new Dean of student affairs after unjustly evicting (Dr Adeyemi) as the Dean of Student Affairs.

They said the eviction was questionable and unfair as Dr Adeyemi is not only said to be a strong supporter of the SUG Movement, but there have been no tangible reason or offences as to why he was kicked out of his previous post even as his tenure is supposed to end in March 2018.

They said the appointment of Dr Malomo came as a shock, since there is said to be a suspicious mutual relationship between the V.C and Malomo. They alleged Malomo had a very controversial tenure as an ASUU chairman.

In addition, they alleged cases of the school depriving both staff and students of their rights.
