Protect us after elections – Igbo residents tell Lagos Government, security agencies

Igbo residents in Lagos State have appealed to the State government and the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Kayode Aderanti, to ensure that security measures are put in place for the protection of their lives and property after the Saturday’s elections.

They have also demanded an unreserved apology from Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos over his comment that the Igbo would within seven days perish in the Lagos lagoon, if they failed to vote for the APC governorship candidate , Akiolu Ambode, in yesterday’s elections.

Chief Akalika Emmanuel,Chairman, Ohaneze Ndigbo in Amuwo Odofin local government area, while speaking on the security of the Igbo in the state said that the call for their protection as well as their property was imperative just to avoid unforeseen circumstances.

The Chairman however commended the intervention of the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, and opinion leaders from Igbo and Yoruba land, affirming that the Igbo had left behind them the offensive comment of the Oba due to their love for Lagos State.

He further cautioned against any form of victimization of Igbo residents in the state, saying, “We also demand that our business premises and other matters of interest will not come under any form of intimidation now or in future”.
