Prosecute House Speaker for disobeying court order – APC urges EFCC, ICPC

The Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has urged the appropriate authorities to arrest and prosecute the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Kombowei Benson, for disobeying an Appeal Court ruling which annulled his election.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Panebi Fortune, the state chapter of the party stressed that Benson should be committed to prison for disobeying court order.

The party condemned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-dominated state House of Assembly for allegedly aiding and abetting illegality.

The party said it was “undemocratic and dishonourable” for the House to have allowed Benson in office 40 days after an Appeal Court annulled his election.

Noting that it was irresponsible, ironical and unacceptable for the House to treat the sacred pronouncement of the third arm of government with disdain, the party noted that it took public outcries and efforts of whistle blowers, including its legal team to reveal the illegality perpetrated in the House.

It also urged the various anti-graft agencies to probe the illegal financial dealings of Benson within the period he disobeyed the court order by staying put as Speaker.
