Prosecute electoral thugs or have another Boko Haram – Dickson warns FG

Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson yesterday lambasted the federal government for allegedly treating perpetrators of violence during the state’s December governorship election with kid gloves.

The Governor who addressed a World Press Conference in Yenagoa regretted that those who “killed and maimed in the election have been allowed to go scot free”.

According to him, such portends “signs of a state that is failing”.

“Our country cannot be deemed to be safe unless every part of the country is safe. We will be laying the foundation for another Boko Haram if non-state actors are allowed to bear arms,” the governor said.

He called on the security agencies to provide adequate security for the Southern Ijaw people during the supplementary election on Saturday January 9.

“Whoever has the duty to protect these people should please do their duty and stop the use of national institutions to promote partisan interest,” he said.

Dickson further accused APC and its candidate Timpre Sylva of being responsible for indiscriminate transfer of heads of security agencies in the state using federal might.
