A fire outbreak on Wednesday destroyed the computer section of the Delta State Library in Asaba, with property worth millions of naira gutted.
Eyewitness, Josephine Obareh said computers worth millions were destroyed by the inferno, which started in a mysterious way within the roof of the library section at night.
Mrs. Rosemary Eboh, Director in charge of the library, who spoke to DAILY POST confirmed that the fire outbreak consumed computers numbering over 5,000.
She added, “I got a distress call in my house at about 10:30pm, and I acted swiftly by ensuring other parts of the library were not destroyed. The affected section is the e-library department which housed about 5, 000 modern computers and its accessories.”
Ebo added that the premises of the library was not powered, and wondered how the fire gutted the library, but appealed to the state government to intervene by replacing the affected equipment including other items which were also lost to the inferno.
Some of the valuables lost in the inferno include; many server systems, and racks containing routers, modem network switches, and distributors, scanning machines, 100 work stations, printers, air conditioners, fans, furniture among several other things.
It was gathered that the timely intervention of the State Fire Service saved the situation as it started from the roof within the computer department.
