It is no longer news that the Governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has forwarded Nuhu Bajoga’s name to the Kaduna state House of Assembly for clearance and approval as Deputy Governor.
Bajoga, who until his selection for the post was the chairman of state Peoples Democratic Party chapter, is also a former Ambassador to Poland.
As the one-time envoy takes the oath of office, he becomes the third Deputy Governor of the North-West state in three years.
It would be recalled that the late Governor Patrick Yakowa was Deputy to Vice President Namadi Sambo when he held sway as Governor. After Sambo’s elevation to the nation’s number two citizen, Yakowa who automatically replaced him, selected incumbent Governor and former finance commissioner Mukhtar Yero, as his deputy.
Below is the official citation by the Kaduna State Government on its new Deputy Governor.
Born on 4th July, 1949 to the family of late Mallam Nyam and Mama Hannatu Audu in Kwoi, present Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Ambassador Nuhu Audu Bajoga attended SIM Primary School Kwoi between 1955-1959. He also attended Baptist Primary School Keffi between 1960-1963. He gained admission into SIM Secondary School, Kagoro in 1964 and obtained his West African School Certificate in 1968. He was at St. Paul’s College, Zaria between 1969-1970 for his Higher School Certificate (HSC). Ambassador Bajoga attended the Kaduna Polytechnic between 1972-1975 where he obtained a Diploma in Accounting. He was also in Slough College, England between 1976-1980 where he graduated and qualified into the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA Professional II).
Back here in Nigeria, Ambassador Bajoga had a stint with the Kaduna State Civil Service. He was an Accountant with the Kaduna State Ministry of Health and later Kaduna State Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, all between 1975-1976. Bajoga joined cement giant in Nigeria, Ashaka Cement Plc in 1980, as the first Internal Audit Manager. He was appointed Area Manager for Bauchi, Jos and Kano in 1981 and served in that capacity until 1988. He was sales administrative Manager in 1989. He was elevated to the position of Regional Manager in-charge of North West and North-East Zones between 1989-1993. His transparency, diligence and total commitment to duty earned him the confidence of the company’s management thereby, appointed him as General Manager Support Services, a position he held from 1993 until his retirement from Ashaka cement in 2002.
It is needless to mention that while in Ashaka Cement, Ambassador Bajoga was not only hard working, but was a true and worthy Ambassador of the people of Kaduna State. His active participation in politics began soon after his retirement. His partnership with the famous Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar (a.k.a Mairago) stormed Kaduna politics like a hurricane in the wake of the 2003 gubernatorial race.
Bajoga was appointed Ambassador extra-ordinary and plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Poland and concurrently accredited to the Czech Republic. He served from 2004-2007. As a PDP member, Ambassador Bajoga had served the party in various capacities; in the course of serving the party, he had made very costly sacrifices including his life. The January 5th, 2011 party primaries of Lere and Kubau L.G.A that almost claimed his life in Zaria is a pellucid example. Ambassador Nuhu Audu Bajoga no doubt occupies a strategic position today in the politics of Kaduna State. In him dwells genuine charity, fear of God, unending love and unequalled simplicity. His patience and indiscriminate respect for all people earned him the confidence of arguably all party faithful when his nomination came up as PDP chairman in Kaduna State.
Ambassador Bajoga attended numerous courses at home and abroad. He is widely travelled, having visited among others; China, France, Republic of Ireland, Sweden, Germany, Niger-Republic, England, United Arab Emirate, Poland, India and The Czech Republic. He also served in various important boards and committees i.e He was a board member of the defunct Nigeria Universal Bank (NUB), he was also board member of the Kaduna State Water Board (KSWB) and of recent, he served as a member of the Kaduna state Peace and Reconciliation Committee.
He became the state chairman of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Kaduna State on 17th March, 2012. On assumption of office as chairman, he initiated Peace and Reconciliation moves amongst aggrieved PDP members. This initiative has brought about the return of many into the party mainstream. The earth-quaking decamping of Senator Ahmed Aruwa and his teaming supporters is a pellucid example. The recent successful and rancor free party primary of the PDP which culminated into a resounding victory at the just concluded Local Government General Elections where PDP won 22 out of 23 Local Government Areas are all clear testimonies of the successful tenor he had as PDP chairman of Kaduna State until his God given and well deserved appointment as Deputy Governor of Kaduna State.
Ambassador Nuha Audu Bajoga plays Golf. He is happily married with children.
