Pressure mounts on police to release 16 cultists

The Rivers State Police Command has come under pressure to release suspected cultists who were arrested on their way to cause mayhem around the Ogoni parts of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, said detectives attached to the IGP Intelligence Unit intercepted sixteen suspected cultists on their way from Etche to Okrika, for onward operation in Tai Local Government Area.

Omoni told newsmen that some politicians had been asking for the release of the suspects, but assured that the police would not bow to such pressure.

According to him, “The boys have mentioned names and we are working with the information we have gotten from them.

“Some people have asking that we release them but we will not budge. You can be rest assured that anybody that is found culpable will be arrested and the law will take its course.”

The PPRO said the State Police Command was determined to conclude investigation on the suspects, arrest other collaborators and prosecute those indicted.
