Presidential election result: How Abia residents reacted to Buhari’s victory

Some Umuahia residents in Abia State, on Wednesday expressed mixed reactions over the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the 2019 presidential plection.

NAN reports that Mr. Vitalis Ukwuoma, a businessman, said the re-election of President Buhari’s was a step in the right direction, adding that the ongoing change agenda in the nation would take socioeconomic development to the “Next Level”.

Ukwuoma said, “Policies and programmes introduced by the Buhari-led government have made positive impact on the lives of Nigerians at all levels.

“It is needful for an administration that has made serious efforts to transform the image of the nation to be re-elected, because the reward for hard work is more work’’.

Chief Okeosisi Harbour, a politician, said that there were reports of irregularities in some states during the presidential election, adding that there was need to conduct a re-run of the election.

Harbour said that “in the areas that had irregularities, areas where the Returning Officer claimed that they announced the results under duress.

“INEC as an umpire should cancel the result and do a re-run in places like Lagos state, Borno, Kano State and Bayelsa for fairness.

“INEC should be seriously prepared for the next elections because their activities have a direct impact on the image of the nation’’.

Mr. Okechukwu Ezeoma, a Public Servant, said that it was pertinent for Nigeria to learn better strategies and methods for conducting free and fair election from developed nations.

Ezeoma said that Nigeria ought to be led by an individual, who would be deeply committed to the protection of lives and property across the nation, adding that the case was different under the watch of President Buhari.

On his part, Mr. Inaga Azu-Inaga, a clergy, said that the outcome of the presidential election was indication that the votes of the electorate did not count.

Azu-Inaga called on relevant agencies to expedite action towards reviewing the operation of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and restructuring of Nigeria.

Miss Joy Ibe, a trader, said that she was delighted over the emergence of President Buhari as the winner of the presidential election.

Ibe said that she was not surprised about the outcome of the election, and appealed to other candidates to accept the election result and support the winner.
