Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-cultural group, has given the March 28 presidential elections that threw up General Mohammadu Buhari as winner, a pass mark, describing it as free and fair.
The group insisted that the outcome of the election should be acceptable to all, calling on the president-elect, Gen. Buhari to implement the report of the 2014 Confab.
This position was made known by the leader of the group, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, who described the election as unprecedented in the history of Nigerian politics. He added that though there were reports of malfunctioning of INEC’s card readers in some places, the exercise was a success.
According to him, there is no need for any call for the cancellation of the election as some people have been advocating, saying, “it is clear from what we can see that it was fair, free and devoid of violence. I hope we will be able to replicate this in future.”
He called on the incoming APC government to play politics that is free from bitterness, rancour and hatred, adding that the interest of the people should be paramount.
