President Jonathan’s visit divides South-East Governors

The scheduled visit of Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan to the South-East has divided Governors from the zone along party lines.

This is even as South-East Governors held a closed door meeting in Enugu on Sunday where they fine-tuned plans ahead of the President’s visit to the zone.

Although the Governors, who had also earlier met last Sunday kept the resolutions reached at the meeting secret, a source revealed that the meeting centred around plans for hosting President Jonathan on April 11, 2014.

Anambra State Governor, Mr. Willie Obiano, was the first to leave the meeting, fueling speculations that it was meant for Governors under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

Obiano, an All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA), Governor, had also similarly left the previous meeting before it ended.

The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum and Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State, and the host, Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State.

Meanwhile, for the umpteenth time, Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha also boycotted the meeting.

President Jonathan is expected to attend the South-East PDP zonal rally in Enugu, where some defectors would be formerly received in the party.
