The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, on Tuesday asserted that the presence of security agents during the general election would guarantee large turnout of voters.
Agbaje, who appealed to Nigerians not to be decieved by the antics of the oppostion, assured that contrary to the fears expressed by some analysts, involvement of the military and other security outfits will ensure peaceful polls.
Speaking in Lagos at an interactive session with governorship candidates in the state, which was convened by the Coalition of Concerned Women for Good Governance, CCWGG, Agbaje said: “The court cannot mean that where there is security issue that troops should just sit down in the barracks because it is election day then they should not participate.
“I think we have to be realistic about the situation that we have in our country and even if we look at precedents, you will find that the troops have been used in previous elections and we have not seen them do anything untold.
Agbaje added the the concerns by opposition politicians were “part of propaganda.”
“But the reality is that for people to come out, evidence have shown that the turn out in any election where the troops have been used had been much higher,” Agbaje said.
