Raheem Sterling scored the winner for Manchester City, as they came from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Etihad on Sunday.
The Gunners, who were defeated 2-1 by Everton in midweek, needed a positive result to keep up with leaders Chelsea, who opened a nine-point gap with victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
And they started brightly. Alexis Sanchez found Theo Walcott in the area and the England striker finished calmly to give Arsenal the lead.
However, as it happened at Goodison Park, the Gunners fell away and allowed theirs back into the game.
Leroy Sane levelled after a brilliant run, before Sterling cut inside Nacho Monreal and fired in the decisive goal.
City have now gone up to second place with 36 points, while Arsenal drop to fourth with 34 points.
