PPA disbands South-West Zonal and State excos

The controversy of the last week’s de-registeration of 28 political parties seems to be taking its toll on some parties as the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) on Sunday announced the dissolution of South-West zonal and state excos with immediate effect.

In a statement, the party said: “The Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, has dissolved the Zonal and State Executive Committees of the party in the South-Western States of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti.”

The National Chairman of the party, Chief Sam Nkire, said the National Working Committee (NWC) took the decision to dissolve the state excos because their tenure had long expired.

Nkire said Article 10 C (111) of the party’s constitution empowers the NWC to dissolve Zonal, State, LGA or Ward Executive Committees when it is absolutely necessary. He added that the “affected party organs in the South-West Zone would be reconstituted in due course, pending when congresses are conducted to produce officials to take over from the care-taker committees.”

The PPA boss thanked the affected officials for their services and urged them to remain loyal to the party as according to him “some of those who had discharged their duties creditably could be reappointed or considered for higher assignments.”

A source within the party said the move was part of the plans to reposition the party in earnest for the 2015 general election. He added that more changes are coming at the state level next year.
