Four police officers who mounted illegal road block at Mile 2, along Apapa-Oshodi expressway that led to the crushing to death of a businessman identified as Henry Dimoji by a diesel laden tanker have been arrest.
The deceased was said to have been crushed during the illegal stop and search exercise conducted by the officers.
It was gathered that the incident occurred when the deceased who was in his car with his wife, Linda were returning from an occasion and were flagged down by the policemen at an illegal check point.
The policemen, attached to the Rapid Response Unit, Ikeja, refused the deceased from parking properly beside the road, insisting he alight from the car and open his booth.
The deceased in the course of obeying the policemen was crushed by a diesel laden tanker.
On seeing what happened, the officers fled the scene despite call for help by the wife of the deceased.
The incident which occurred at about 7.30pm last Thursday, April 30, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, while the policemen have been apprehended.
The truck driver alongside his conductor have also been rounded up by the police.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, while confirming the tragedy said the matter was been investigated.
“What the police are investigating is a case of a fatal accident, and the culpability of the officers in the incident. Two officers are in custody over the matter, and investigations are ongoing,” Nwosu disclosed.
