An unlucky soldier attached to the Joint Task Force, Operation Pulo Shield was on Friday shot by an irate police officer identified as Odika Agbo at a popular club in Bay Bridge, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
DailyPost gathered from a source that a minor misunderstanding which later degenerated into a fight ensued between Agbo who is a Superintendent of Police and the soldier, identified as Corporal Salisu Adamu.
Agbo who was dressed in mufti shot Adamu in the hand.
The source, who pleaded anonymity said, “It started as a misunderstanding but later degenerated into a serious quarrel. In the heat of the argument, the policeman pulled his pistol and shot the soldier.”
He added that the incident cause an uproar at the club forcing some fun-seekers to flee the scene.
It was also gathered that after the shooting, some youth at the club gave the policeman a thorough beating before he was rescued by another army officer, who later intervened.
The source said, “The army officer collected the pistol, but later gave it back to the police officer.”
Bayelsa state Police Spokesperson, Mr. Fidelis Odunna, confirmed the incident noting that the policeman had been arrested and detained, though the injury sustained by the soldier was not fatal.
He said, “We are investigating the development to know what made the officer to use his firearms.”
