Following the order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, that Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki be arrested, the Police have made known its current position on the matter.
Responding to an enquiry by DAILY POST Friday night, Ag. Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olabisi Kolawole, said “The Police is yet to receive the order in question. We will only act when such is forwarded”.
The Tribunal Chairman, Justice Danladi Umar, had ordered the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase to arrest Saraki following his refusal to appear in court to face a 13-count criminal charge levelled against him by the Federal Ministry of Justice.
Saraki had sent his team of lawyers to serve the tribunal with a copy of the ruling of Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court.
The court had summoned the Ministry of Justice, Justice Umar, Chairman Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr. Sam Saba, and Mr Hassan who signed the charge against Saraki to appear on Monday to show cause why the trial should be allowed to proceed.
But the prosecution said Justice Mohammed lacked the powers to summon the CCT and CCB chairmen, accusing Saraki of attempting to scuttle his trial.
Justice Umar, however, refused his appeal stating that Saraki having sworn to protect the constitution should have respected the tribunal by appearing before it.
