Officer in charge of the Task Force looking into the issue of Cattle rustling in Katsina-Ala, Benue State, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Baba Ibrahim was on Wednesday shot dead by unknown gunmen during an official visit to the area.
This was disclosed by the State command Public Relations Officer, Austin Ezeani, who said the ASP was killed while on a special assignment from Abuja. He added that a team of officers led by the deceased visited the area with the intent of unraveling the mysteries surrounding cattle rustling.
According to Ezeani, some assailants who were driving in a red Toyota car, shot at the vehicle carrying the ASP and his team as they were about to enter into the main motor park in Katsina-Ala.
He further stated that Ibrahim was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he was pronounced dead while the other officers are currently receiving medical attention in the said hospital.
The PPRO affirmed that the Command was working towards arresting the gunmen.
Ezeani expressed regrets over the level of weapons in possession of hoodlums who go about killing innocent people.
