Police speak on Otukpo cult war, give details of bloody clash

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the cult clash in Otukpo area of Benue State where several persons were killed on Sunday.

DAILY POST reports that no fewer than 10 were killed and several persons injured in a clash that erupted between cult groups in Otukpo, Benue State.

While the LG chairman, George Alli confirmed six persons dead, the police through its spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu, claimed that only two casualties were recorded.

Yamu told DAILY POST that 15 persons have been arrested in connection with the deadly clash.

He said, “At about 1200hrs on Sunday, in a remote bush called Banana Island at the outskirt of Otukpo, two Rival Cults (Black Skin Secret Cult and Red Skin Secret Cult) engaged themselves in a fight.

“Two casualties were recorded, while one was injured. Swift action by the Police with the support of the Local Vigilantes has led to the arrest of Fifteen suspects, out of which Seven are confirmed to be members of both Cult Groups.

“The Police appreciate the partnership of the well meaning members of the community in ensuring security of life and property in the State and appeal that all suspicious persons or activities should be reported to the nearest Police station.”
