Officers of the police force attached to the Zuba division have shot a suspspected criminal while trying to evade arrest at Zuba, a suburb of Abuja while another gave up himself to the security officers in the process.
It was learnt that the suspected criminals were driving in a Honda Civic car stolen at Durumi area of Abuja on the faithful day.
The two suspects, on sighting a police patrol van tried to escape in the process the police opened fire on them leading to one of the hoodlums being shot. He later died of bullet wound while being taken to Gwagwalada Teaching Hospital.
Chief Superintendent Femi Adelagan, the Zuba Divisional Police Officer, confirmed the incidence. He said the car the suspects were in was stolen from a compound at Durumi where it was parked.
Adelagan said “They removed the car with a master key and when the owner came out to pick something from his car, he discovered that the car was not there any longer. He immediately contacted the police and information regarding the car was instantly radioed to patrol teams.”
According to Adelagan, the suspects were on transit via Durumi heading to Kaduna but luck ran out on them as they had to go through Zuba.
“I was conducting stop and search with my men at the boundary between Zuba and Madalla and immediately they sighted us, the driver of the car jumped out and tried to escape into the bush but the police shot at his legs to prevent him from escaping. He was captured while the second suspect surrendered himself,” he explained.
According to the police Chief, one of the suspects lost his life due to bleeding on the way to the hospital
