A Police officer from Mopol eleven in Calabar, Cross River State, Williams Enah, on Wednesday shot to death an Air force personnel.
The incident occurred at an ATM section of a commercial bank in Marian Road, Calabar.
The Police man was attached to the bank.
DAILY POST gathered that the policeman was sitting in one corner of the bank when he heard lousy noise and he moved in with a view to finding out what was the matter.
A source said as some of the customers who were at the ATM section, attempted to attack him, he discharged the bullet which hit one of the customers and he slumped.
An eyewitness who declined his identity said the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.
He explained “Nobody knew that the customers, over eight of them were Air Force officers, and the one the bullet hit was one of them.”
When contacted on phone, the State Security Adviser to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River, Ani Esin, said, “I am aware of the incident, the situation has been brought under control, there is no tension.”
However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ms Irene Ugbo told DAILY POST on phone, “The Air Force Officer was hit and he was rushed to the Police Clinic where he was confirmed dead by the Police Doctor”.
Explaining the circumstances that led to the killing she said, “The eight Air Force Officers were in mufti and after the incident, it was discovered that they were Air Force personnel.
“The Commissioner of Police and the Air Force Commander are putting their heads together to make sure that the situation is brought under control.
“The Police man (Suspect) was whisked away from the scene and his gun was taken away from him by the Police command to avoid further situation.”
“The suspect would face orderly room trial and if found wanting, will be sanction according to the law. Investigation is continuing. He is Sergeant Williams Enah from Mopol eleven,” she stated.
