A certain nurse, who was arrested at Arogun village in Ogun state over the weekend by policemen from the Ewekoro division for allegedly stealing a newborn baby, has been identified as Mrs. Adebola Adebowale, and not Adebola Titilayo as she reportedly told the police.
DAILY POST recalls that the nurse had stolen the new born on June 13, 2015. She allegedly took the baby away after the delivery, before the mother could recover from cramps of childbirth and told the mother that she had a stillbirth.
The suspect, a mother of seven, had issues with her initial marriage and got married to a new husband, who she desperately wanted to have a baby for.
She was however arrested when the baby’s mother got information that the baby is still alive and immediately informed the police.
The Ogun State Police command, during further investigation, realized the accused didn’t only give a fake identity; she is not a trained nurse, but a trado-medical midwife.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed on Monday that checks made at the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives proved that Adebowale was a fake nurse.
Adejobi said, “In the course of investigating the case of child stealing at the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence in Eleweran, Abeokuta, it was established that the suspect arrested for the crime in the Ewekoro Area of the state is a trado-medical midwife, not a trained or registered nurse.
“This was revealed and established after the police investigators in the case visited relevant government and professional bodies in the state to ascertain the status of the suspect.”
Adejobi added that Adebowale and her new husband, Alhaji Ologbenla Adebowale, a surveyor, had already christened the stolen baby Malik Adeyemi Adebowale, at a well celebrated ceremony in Ifo, Ogun State.
He further said the suspect was based in the Meiran area of Lagos State before she relocated to her unregistered maternity home, Amazing Grace, in Ifo, two years ago.
